My name is Danni and I’m a CNA at my local hospital with a passion for my work. I worked in Med/Surg, PCU and Emergency Room. While working in the ER, it was my birthday, first day and we had an 80yr old woman come in, unresponsive. I have never done CPR on a real person before so it really took me for a surprise. I ran in to help with compressions and my heart felt like it was going to explode. I was nervous, scared and trying to do my best to save this woman’s life. I had to stand on a stool to reach her while laying on the hospital bed and my knees shook so bad that I almost buckled! This is the reason I want to be an RN.
My family has always been an inspiration for me to become a Registered Nurse. What drove me to officially become a nurse is my mother was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in November 1994.She always has pain and always trying to take medicine to put her into remission. She has taken many biologics to help her but with no success. She had a bad reaction from Methetrexate, she got methetrexate lung where she has horrible gastro problems, and she was having shortness of breath. She couldn’t breathe and ended up going to the emergency room and had an xray of her lung. Her Dr advised her to never take methetrexate again. She ended up switching to Plaqernil which helped her, but then it just stopped working. You have to go and get eye exams every six months because Plaqernil messes with your eyes. I want to help patients with auto-immune diseases and may even expand my career to become a Nurse Practitioner. I have a passion to help others and see people happy and feeling better. I feel happiness is the key to life and I want to help aid in pain management and pain relief.
Another sensitive subject is abortion. I am a firm believer that every pregnancy is meant to be. It is unfair for us to choose the existence of life when God has given us a gift. I understand that there are certain circumstances like rape, etc., but there are adoption agencies and families that are unable to have children and would love to start a family. A partial birth abortion is the worst kind. Let me explain to you, the process of a partial birth abortion. The following statements may be harsh. Everyone has their opinion of this topic, and it’s a huge debate over it, especially when religion gets on the topic. I believe that God has a plan for each and every one of us and who are we to be the judge of that? A lot of people think that the baby is not a life form until actually born. I have seen video of an ultrasound of an abortion, and the way that the fetus tries to protect its own life by moving away from the abortion instrument, is so devastating. It really changed my mind on the subject, especially since I was on the fence beforehand. I used to believe that women should just have that choice, because it was their bodies, but they are not killing themselves, but a harmless human being that is innocent.
I have been, for the past 4 years, attending my community college to prepare for my career dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. Little did I know, I took too many classes and they ended up graduating me with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts, which is not what I was going for. Now, since the RN degree is Associates level, they will no longer fund me to continue my career. I was accepted into the RN program today, November 23rd 2015. I have stressed out all options but I am left having to pay out of pocket for my schooling, which I cannot do. So my dream and 4 years of hard work are going down the drain unless I find another option. I am in desperate need of a scholarship to help me with my tuition. I am a mother of 4 and happily married to the love of my life, who also works at the same hospital, as a lead cook. We live paycheck to paycheck and that’s what I’m trying to change. My husband is in school for his Administration of Justice degree to become a counselor for troubled kids. We are both drug-free, and we live life how we should. We love our family and kids and we are good people. I would be more than appreciative and grateful, and I promise, I am not one to ask others for things, but this is so very important to me.
