Emergency medical care formerly known in some countries as accidental care is the medical specialty involving care for unscheduled patients with illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. in their role as first line providers, emergency physicians are responsible for initiating investigations and interventions to diagnose and/or treat patients in the acute phase (including initial resuscitation and stabilization), coordinating care with physicians from other specialties and making decisions regarding a patient’s need for hospital admission, observation, or discharge.

Emergency physicians generally practice in hospital emergency departments, pre-hospital settings via emergency medical services, and intensive care units.,but may also work in primary care settings such as urgent care clinics.

As a medical student, specialized in emergency medical care, I engage in weekly stimulation exercises that allow me and my fellow colleagues to practice independent assessment and resuscitation of critically ill patients. This immersive curriculum is the “crown jewel “ of the emergency medicine clerkship and is universally regarded by students as one of the highest yield part of their education.

As a student giving medical care, I also participate in Pre-hospital care experiences by riding with some of the busiest ambulance units in the country. In all, most of the time I am able to have a sound understanding of emergency medical care and a greater confidence and competence when confronted with real life emergencies.

There is also something known as advanced clerkship in emergency medicine. This provides a great opportunity as a student to enhance my clinical skills while learning about the opportunities and challenges facing specialists in emergency medicine today. In the clinical area, I assume primary responsibility for patient care, working closely with the faculty and house staff. I enhance my clinical experiences through participation in departmental teaching activities. Precisely, I have realized that participating in this clerkship has developed my skills in diagnosis and management of emergency conditions, in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and also in care for critically ill and injured patients.

Without question, the delivery of emergency care requires special people in the right roles at the right times. As a medical student, I approach life saving and emergency medical care from a different perspective. Emergency care providers practicing advanced and pediatric life support skills are the front line personnel in the war to save lives.

Emergency care is the purest of medical practice. There is no time to procrastinate or revisit a set of circumstances at a later, more convenient time; preservation of life is the only concern. My approach to mentally and physically preparing in life saving techniques is definitely different from others.

Within my own struggles, I have learned first hand that all lives are precious and therefore approach emergency situations with unwavering intention to do all that is within my power to save lives and do no harm in the process. With regard to my mental approach, I view each life as unique and special. I believe that any individual in an emergency situation deserves 100% of my focus, and that moment, before the case is encountered is a moment of centering and deep concentration I. E a time of preparation. Deep respect for human existence and the innate desire to preserve lives allow me to immediately focus on the matter at hand and essentially establish a mental list of priorities to provide the best possible chances and environment for critical care success.

Working as a health care provider is definitely not going to be easy, rather it will be stressful and also a rewarding career. One thing should be in mind of every health care provider that ensuring a patient’s safety is a national priority.

In a nutshell, I advice that any individual working as a health care provider should in his/her best, as there is always a reward for every good thing performed including healthcare which is saving lives and giving adequate care.

This skill (providing health care) can also be applied to one’s self and loved ones when needed. Believe me when I say it is beneficial, and has a great reward.
